Ordering a Custom Instrument

To order a custom Highland Strings instrument, I require a deposit to establish your place in my production schedule. The deposit helps offset the time and costs involved in materials procurement. Deposits required are as follows:

  • $500 for guitars, carved top mandolins, and bouzoukis
  • $150 for flat top mandolins
  • $100 for Saxon lyre

Your deposit is fully refundable until the actual commencement of your build. I currently accept cash, personal check, certified check, Paypal, and Google Checkout.

Notification will be given approximately two weeks before the actual commencement of your build. Once I have begun construction your deposit is not refundable.

I will notify you upon completion of your instrument, at which time the remainder of the balance of your final price will be due. Once I have received payment in full I will ship or release the instrument to you. The customer is responsible for any shipping charges.

Upon receipt of your instrument you will have a three day trial period during which you may return the instrument for any reason. After inspecting the returned instrument for wear or damage I will return your second payment, but not the deposit. After I successfully sell the instrument I will refund your deposit. The cost of repairing any wear or damage to the instrument while in your possession will be deducted from the refund of your deposit. Highly personalized instruments (i.e. certain inlay, carvings, and colors) may not be returnable under any circumstances. All shipping charges will be absorbed by the purchaser of the instrument.

All Highland Strings instruments come with a hardshell case. Custom cases such as Calton or Cedar Creek will incur an extra charge. The cost of the Freya model Saxon lyre does not include a case. Handmade cases for the lyres are available through me for an extra $400.

Upon your request I will email you photos at any or all stages of the construction of your instrument at no extra charge.

Prices and availability of hardware and materials are subject to change. Overall price of instruments is also subject to change. Prices shift from a quote to finality upon the notification of the imminent start of your build.
